Nesting

It started with this feeling of needing to get things done around the house.  Lots of things.  Things that I haven't thought about.  Really, ever thought about.  We need to clean behind the washer and dryer.  The filing cabinet needs to be organized.  The cabinets need washing.  Then I started a list.  And it was long, really long.  So I typed it up.  Jamie joined in and we started crossing stuff off the list.  Let me add that he joined in with a smile on his face.  The guy is great!  One day he called to ask if I wanted him to pick up G from daycare and start dinner or would I rather have him scrub the laundry room floor and clean behind the appliances.  (I picked the latter.) Love that man!

Then it dawned on me that I am nesting.

I love that.  I am so glad that although I am missing out on a pregnant belly, ultrasounds of my beautiful baby, feeling kicks, people asking me when I am due, wearing cute maternity clothes (and the list goes on).....I am not missing out on nesting.

I am really hoping I don't have to nest for years.  But, if I do, boy will our home be organized!

Nope, haven't heard a thing and a note about diapers.

It's only been two weeks and we've had 1,239 people ask is if we've gotten a call yet.  OK, it hasn't been that bad, but I think people we're dreaming of a magical story in which we went in the book and several minutes later we got a call.  Good thing that's not what we expected!  I'd love to have a magical story about a quick match, but I'll take a magical story at any time.  We just want to grow our family, my timeline for it has disappeared.  I hope that it doesn't come back, this way of thinking is much easier on my heart.

Today I was visiting with Griffin's daycare "mom".  I asked her what she'd think of us using cloth diapers.  She said that it wouldn't be a problem at all...it would make no difference to her.  Really, really cool!  So, I think that I'll start that search after things calm down a little bit (if they ever do!).  Some days I get scared to act like an expecting mother, and other days I allow myself to put my whole heart into it.  I daydream about it, but I don't really "do" anything for it.  So, the search for the perfect cloth diaper may be just what I need to begin the nesting process!  I need to let go of the fear that I won't get to be a mom again and keep my hope alive!

A special thanks to my friend Tawnia for inspiring me to consider cloth diapers.  XO

Congratulations!

I am constantly learning that life is short, today I felt I needed to acknowledge it. So, I took Griffin to the local coffee shop for breakfast and brought him to daycare late. I love dates with my little man. Griffin was picking out a table and talking to one of the coffee shop employees while I was paying for our breakfast.

I turn to look, and the employee that was talking to Griffin was walking up to me with a big smile on her face. "So, I hear he is going to be a big brother! Congratulations!"

Oh dear. I am not pregnant, I am SO not pregnant. Then it dawned on me that, yes, he IS going to be a big brother! So, I did what every expecting mother does: "Thank you!" Followed by a cheerful: "Oh, I'm not pregnant, we're adopting." Adopt. It's such a nice word. It warms people's hearts. The coffee shop lady definitely had a warm heart.

Enter coffee drinker on the left, "Oh, how exciting, you are adopting! Congratulations!"

So, there I was. An expecting mother, celebrating with strangers. I'm expecting, and my sweet boy gave me a moment to enjoy it publicly. No baby bump, but people still celebrated with me, for me. All because of my little man and his gift of gab. What a gift.
